Riot Gear to the Prison Service

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service received assistance from the U.S. Embassy, Port of Spain on Thursday 10th May, 2018 at the Prison Administration Building in Port of Spain. These latest additions have significantly impact the way in which Prisons Officers can respond to a variety of challenging security incidents within the nation’s Prisons.

The U.S. Embassy handed over equipment and gear that would be utilised by Prisons Officers in a riotous situation in a small ceremony which included representatives of the Embassy, the Commissioner of Prisons Mr. Gerard Wilson, and other Senior Executive Member of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service at around 10:30 am this morning.

Ten Officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Prisons Service received tactical training support from the U.S. Government in the form of their participation a Mock Prison Riot Exercise from April 29th to May 2nd, 2018 at Moundsville, West Virginia, USA. These ten officers would have participated in a variety of tactical training courses which allowed them to test their skills among other international correctional and law enforcement agencies.

The Commissioner of Prisons Mr Gerard Wilson, expressed his gratitude his gratitude to the U.S. Embassy stating, “We are indeed thankful for this opportunity, as it allows our officers to be able to test their skills on an international level, as well sharpening their ability to treat with such challenging situations with a measure of calmness, professionalism and humaneness. We look forward to further partnerships with the U.S. Embassy, as we signal an about turn in our daily operations towards the better.
